Text case styles explained

  • UPPERCASE: every letter capitalized. Useful for headings and acronyms, but hard to read in long text.
  • lowercase: every letter in small letters.
  • Sentence case: only the first letter of each sentence is capitalized, as in normal prose. Ideal for fixing text that was typed with Caps Lock on.
  • Title Case: major words are capitalized and short words (a, an, the, and, but, or, of, in, on, to…) stay lowercase unless they come first or last: «The Lord of the Rings».
  • Capitalize Each Word: the first letter of every word, including short ones: «The Lord Of The Rings».

Title case rules

Style guides (APA, Chicago, AP, MLA) differ in the details, but they all capitalize the first and last word, nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and pronouns, and keep articles, coordinating conjunctions and short prepositions lowercase. This tool follows those common rules and also capitalizes the first word after a colon.

Example

«the lord of the rings: the return of the king» → The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Other tools

  • Remove accents: turns «café crème» into «cafe creme».
  • Remove extra spaces: collapses double spaces and blank lines.
  • Join broken lines: fixes text copied from a PDF where every line ends with a line break.
  • url-slug: turns a title into a URL-friendly «my-blog-post-title».
